About — CA(L)M™ by Karen & Cathy Stephenson
About CA(L)M™

CA(L)M™ is new
as a name. It is not new
as a way of working.

CA(L)M™ emerged from years of practice across nervous system regulation, sound therapy, physical therapy, acupuncture, coaching, education, constitutional assessment, and embodied healing. For a long time, the work lived in different places. Eventually, a larger pattern became clear.

The developmental model of becoming
People were not simply trying to heal from the past. They were trying to continue becoming.

Most developmental models help explain how we became who we are. CA(L)M™ asks the next question: how do we consciously participate in who we are still becoming?

We are born into a family, a culture, a community, a constitution, a body, a history, and a world already in motion. Life shapes us. We adapt. Adaptations become familiar. Familiar patterns begin to feel like identity.

CA(L)M™ helps people understand those patterns, regulate the nervous system, and create more space for choice, self-authorship, alignment, and contribution.

Karen and Cathy Stephenson
Two sisters
Their work meets at the intersection of body, mind, nervous system, story, and human development.

Karen brings decades of experience in education, coaching, nonprofit leadership, family systems, sound therapy, nervous system work, and transformational program design.

Cathy brings decades of clinical experience in physical therapy, acupuncture, body-based assessment, constitutional care, and integrative treatment.

Together, they created CA(L)M™ as a practical methodology for understanding how people adapt, how systems protect, and how human beings continue developing across the lifespan.

CERTIFIED SOUND THERAPIST
CERTIFIED BUSINESS & LIFE COACH
FOUNDER, SOUND RISINGS

Karen's early career focused on direct work with young people and families navigating significant life stressors — family systems involved with child welfare, LGBTQIA+ youth seeking affirming support, court-involved adolescents, and individuals building stability in complex environments.

This hands-on work sparked the question that would shape everything: why do people remain stuck in patterns that no longer serve them, even when change is deeply desired?

Her path moved through education policy in Washington DC, nonprofit leadership, organizational development, and years of interdisciplinary study in sound therapeutics, nervous system regulation, vibrational healing traditions, and attunement-based approaches to lasting change. Her work in therapeutic sound was further shaped through mentorship with John Beaulieu.

FOUNDER, WELL IN MONTCLAIR, NJ

Cathy's journey began as an entrepreneur, building and operating businesses long before entering healthcare. More than twenty years ago, she founded Focus Physical Therapy and Wellness — decades of experience not only as a practitioner, but as a business owner committed to building environments designed to support transformation.

While working extensively with individuals recovering from complex neurological and brain-based injuries, a larger truth emerged: healing rarely happens in isolated systems. The body does not recover independently from stress, environment, emotional history, or the broader patterns shaping a person's life.

Through years of study in homeopathy, acupuncture, constitutional health systems, and Five Element Theory — and shaped by the teachings of Paul Herscu, Amy Rothenberg, and John Beaulieu — Cathy developed an approach that consistently moved beyond traditional rehabilitation. At her core, she is a systems analyst and pattern reader.

Why we built CA(L)M™

People deserve more than
symptom management.

More than insight.
More than coping tools.
More clarity.
More capacity.
More ease.
More resilience.
More room for joy.
More authorship.
More becoming.

CA(L)M™ is for the person who knows they are not broken. And also knows there is more available. We built it because people deserve a way to understand how life shaped them — and how they can now participate in shaping what comes next.

The book
In Four Movements
How Sound, the Nervous System, and an Ancient Map Brought Two Sisters Home.

The full story behind CA(L)M™ — told through the lives of two sisters who took very different paths to the same place. Part memoir, part methodology, part map for anyone who's been doing the work and wondering why it hasn't landed yet.

Karen and Cathy are co-writing In Four Movements now. The prologue is available to listen to — their voices, their story, the beginning of the method.
